The amazing spider man zeb wells5/30/2023 I have not been a fan of John Romita Jr.’s art in this “Spider-Man” run, so this switch over to the Dodsons is a huge level up. They are a veteran art team, which credits in mainstream superhero books and indie comics alike. On art we have the Dodsons! Excellent! Terry Dodson is doing pencils and colors and his wife Rachel Dodson is doing inks. This issue definitely leans into that rapid-fire banter part of his career, which is a natural fit for Spidey. He’s even left his mark on “Spider-Man!” But he is probably best remembered as the guy who first wrote Deadpool’s fourth-wall breaking awareness. It’s not like Joe Kelly is the new kid on the block. You thought this would be easy for Peter? Nope! The special two-parter from superstar guests Joe Kelly and Terry Dodson concludes here! Someone tries to kill Spidey and Black Cat.

Christmas at Downton by Elizabeth Fellow5/30/2023 You step inside and are immediately greeted by warmth, the sounds of laughter, and the heart-warming scent of pine mixed with cinnamon, orange, and nutmeg. Carson has swung the door open and is welcoming you in from the cold. It's a cold December afternoon on the Yorkshire Moors, and you've been invited to celebrate Christmas at Downton Abbey! The snow crunches under your feet as you approach the great entry way, and before you can knock Mr. Carson takes your coat then leads you to the main hall where the Crawley family has.

Daymond john book rise and grind5/30/2023 My takeaways from the book: Have a killer work ethic and maximize your time. The book is filled with “old school” advice that you would get from your mother or grandmother who had to work two or three jobs to make ends meet. The foundation of the book is advice that Daymond John received from his mother - his mother displayed a giant can opener that read “THINK BIG” and also taught him that time will pass anyway, so he might as well use his time productively. It gives powerful advice on how to maximize your time by making the best use of every moment. Rise and Grind is motivation that actually works. Thankfully, the time that you take to read the book will be time well-spent. The first paragraph of Rise and Grind advises the reader to spend time wisely because time is the only thing that you cannot get back.

Book if we were villains5/30/2023 The slow burn of James and Oliver was PERFECT for the entire book and the kiss at the end of the play was timed incredibly, and up until this point in the book I was cheering for the (what seemed to be) flawless arc of James and Oliver’s relationship, I couldn’t help but feel that it was forced snd rushed at the end to “kill” James for shock value. As a queer person myself I was happy to have Alexander’s character be gay without it being his entire character arc/ personality and I appreciated the representation from his character. The world building of the school and sets for the various plays was amazing and despite what other people have said about the characters I felt like I did get to know most of them quite well (minus Wren) H O W E V E R I need to rant about the representation of the queer characters in this book. This book was perfect to read next and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently read The Secret History and was looking to get back into the dark academia vibe.

Tolkien finn and hengest5/30/2023 As it was, reading this book straight through felt like entering a dark forest in northern Germany in 500 a.d. I think it should have been structured with the Reconstruction at the beginning, perhaps followed by the translations. Then, a reconstruction of how the actual story might have gone, with some rather obscure appendices to top the whole thing off. This was followed by a ‘Glossary of Names’ which took up a third of the book, followed with some brief commentary, before the fragments presented in the first section were finally translated at around 95% through the book. There was a preface, an introduction, and then the two texts which the book was to be based on, presented in their original Old English (one a stand-alone fragment, and the other a few hundred lines from Beowulf). Unfortunately, the drama of the cover was more moving than the text, such as it was. I was sold immediately (as was the book). Finn and Hengest had a sweet cover of two men, one seemingly crying into the wind and driving rain, and another looking cunningly askance, while behind them some Heorot sat on the throne of a hill above the raging sea.

Marlowe granados age5/29/2023 A cri de coeur for party girls and anyone who has ever felt entitled to an adventure of their own, Happy Hour is an effervescent tonic for the ails of contemporary life. Happy Hour announces a dazzling new talent in Marlowe Granados, whose exquisite wit recalls Anita Loos's 1925 classic, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, updated to evoke a recent, golden period of hope and transformation. Through it all, Isa's bold, beguiling voice captures the precise thrill of cultivating a life of glamour and intrigue as she juggles paying her dues with skipping out on the bill. Money runs ever tighter and the strain tests their friendship as they try to convert their social capital into something more lasting. By night, they weave from Brooklyn to the Upper East Side among a rotating cast of celebrities, artists, and bad-mannered grifters. By day, Isa and her best friend, Gala, sell clothes in a market stall, pinching pennies for their Bed-Stuy sublet and bodega lunches. In her diary she chronicles her New York City adventure during the sweltering summer of 2013. Isa Epley is twenty-one years old and wise enough to understand that the purpose of life is the pursuit of pleasure. Refreshing and wry in equal measure, Happy Hour is an intoxicating novel of youth well spent. With the verve and bite of My Year of Rest and Relaxation and the wisecracking sensibility of a golden-age Hollywood heroine, Marlowe Granados's stunning dEbut brilliantly captures a summer of striving in New York City.
